Constitution Day of the Russian Federation
Constitution Day of the Russian Federation is celebrated annually on December 12. The main regulatory legal act of the country was adopted by popular vote on December 12, 1993. On this day, a nationwide referendum was held, which was attended by about 58.2 million Russians. They were asked to vote for or against the draft basic law.21
For twelve years, Constitution Day on December 12 has been a day off. Since January 1, 2005, according to the amendments to the Labor Code adopted by the State Duma, this day has become a working day. In July 2005, the Day of the Constitution of Russia was counted among the memorable dates.2
On Constitution Day, patriotic events, solemn rallies and round tables are held in almost all cities of the country. Also, an All-Russian reception of citizens is timed to coincide with this day, in which government representatives answer questions from residents of the state. Another tradition: on December 12, Russians over the age of 14 are solemnly presented with passports.
