The migrant exam is a mandatory test in the Russian language, Russian history, and the basics of Russian legislation. It is required to obtain a Work Patent, Temporary Residence Permit (TRP), Permanent Residence Permit (PRP), and citizenship

Participants of the State Program for the voluntary resettlement of compatriots to the Russian Federation

The exam consists of three modules:
Russian Language – assessment of speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills
Russian History – knowledge of key historical events
Basics of Russian Legislation – understanding of migrants’ rights and responsibilities in Russia
Exam fees:
Work Patent — 3,800 RUB
Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) — 5,900 RUB
Permanent Residence Permit (PRP) — 5,900 RUB
Citizenship — 2,950 RUB per exam (total 5,900 RUB for both exams)

You need to provide:
Passport (original and copy)
Notarized translation of the passport into Russian (if not in Russian)
Migration card (if entry to Russia was visa-based)
Registration at place of stay (if available)
Payment receipt (if required)

You can take the exam at accredited state institutions that conduct testing in the Russian language, history, and legislation. Our website provides a full list of accredited institutions across all cities in Russia, including contact details.
The number of attempts is unlimited. You can retake the exam as many times as needed. However, each attempt must be paid for separately.
If you do not pass, you can retake the exam after 30 days. Some accredited institutions may allow earlier retakes, so it is recommended to check the conditions in advance. Each retake requires a new payment.
